Hyderabad to Srisailam: cost, route and forest road tips
Srisailam is a Jyotirlinga temple and a Shakti Peetha, set on the Nallamala hills above the Krishna river. The drive from Hyderabad passes through forest, and that is what makes it special and what asks for a little extra care.
Most visitors leave in the early morning, reach the temple by late morning, and drive back the same evening or stay overnight in a temple guesthouse.

- Kalwakurthy and Achampet. Last major fuel and food stops before the forest section.
- Forest section. Parts of the road run through protected forest. Do not stop for photographs, do not litter, and follow the posted speed limits.
- Srisailam Dam viewpoint. Impressive after good monsoon rains when the gates are open.
By bus, train or air
State buses and private buses run from Hyderabad to Srisailam every day, and are the simplest choice for pilgrims who do not want to drive the ghat section. There is no direct train to the town.

- Srisailam Dam and its viewpoint.
- Patalaganga by ropeway or steps.
- Akkamahadevi caves, reached by boat when water levels allow.

- Dress modestly for the temple, and carry a light jacket for the hills.
