Ujjain and Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga trip from Indore: route and cost

By the CostMyTrip Team · Updated 24 October 2026

Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain and Omkareshwar on the Narmada are two of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and both are within easy reach of Indore. This guide shows a simple two-day loop by car and what it costs.

Darshan and timings

Darshan arrangements, special-entry tickets and timings change with festivals and seasons. Book and check only through each temple's official website or counters, and ignore agents offering shortcuts. Shravan month, Mahashivratri and long weekends bring the longest queues.

Common questions

How far is Omkareshwar from Ujjain?

About 140 km by road, usually via Indore, or roughly 3–3.5 hours of driving.

Can I see Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar in one day?

It is possible from Indore, but tiring because of temple queues. Two days with one night in Ujjain or Omkareshwar is more comfortable.

How much does the Indore–Ujjain–Omkareshwar trip cost by car?

About ₹2,577 for fuel and a toll allowance on the 282 km loop in a petrol car; with one night's stay and food for two, roughly ₹6,200–₹8,500.

Plan the loop around the temple visits

The loop has three road legs, not a return journey to be doubled again. Add Indore → Ujjain → Omkareshwar → Indore as stops in the planner and check where you will actually spend the night. A stay in Indore creates a different sequence from a night in Ujjain or Omkareshwar.

Choose the fixed commitment first

If you hold a confirmed reporting slot at either temple, anchor that visit first and leave the other flexible. Driving time does not include a queue, baggage storage or reaching the reporting gate. Check each temple’s current instructions before buying a non-refundable onward connection.

Compare a taxi quote with the whole loop

Ask for a single written quotation showing all three legs, the overnight location, included kilometres, driver allowance, parking and waiting. A per-kilometre headline may exclude the driver’s overnight stay or a minimum daily distance. Replace the own-car estimate with the quotation; do not add the entire taxi bill on top of fuel.

Keep the budget auditable

Record room nights, room count and food per person per day separately. A special-entry booking or other confirmed charge belongs on its own line. If one temple visit is delayed, decide which optional activity to drop before rushing the next drive. The lowest fuel estimate does not establish whether both visits fit the day.
